第22回世界テコンドー選手権大会の特集記事番外編として、大会に参加した海外の師範・コーチへのインタビューをご紹介します。
第3回目はITF競技委員（スペイン）のMaster Frank Diaz8段へのインタビュー記事です。
大会の感想やスペインでのテコンドーの様子、スペインの魅力などをお伺いしました。

世界大会について
Master Frank Diaz8段、インタビューにご協力くださりありがとうございます。
早速ですが、今回の世界選手権全体の感想をお聞かせください。
まず始めに、アスタナで開催されたITF世界選手権の組織委員会に感謝の意を表します。
このような素晴らしく重要なイベントを企画するのは非常に困難です。
また、大会を通じたテレビ中継も格別だったし、何よりもカザフスタンの人々のホスピタリティが素晴らしかった。
そして、世界最高峰の朝鮮のテコンドー・デモンストレーション・チームを見る機会を得れたのも貴重でした。
続いて、今回の世界大会で最も印象に残っていることをお聞かせください。
世界大会では、選手が主役です。これまでの努力を通じて、自分たちの技術レベルと実力を「披露」します。
そして世界大会が開催されるごとにレベルが上がっており、これはテコンドー界全体にとって素晴らしい傾向です。
今大会に参加した日本選手団の印象をお聞かせください。
日本は常に非常に高いレベルの競技者がいる強い国であり、日本チームの試合を見ることをいつも楽しみにしています。

日本選手団へのメッセージをお願いします。
日本チームの非常に高いレベルはもちろんですが、私は日本チームのスピリットが大好きです。
彼らが決して負けないことを願っています。そして、次の世界選手権で彼らに会えることを楽しみにしています。
スペインでのテコンドーについて
スペインではテコンドーはどれくらい人気がありますか？
テコンドーはスペインで非常に人気があり、特に WT スタイルが人気です。ですが、 ITFもスペインの格闘技シーンに徐々に浸透しており、将来的にはさらに人気が高まることを非常に期待しています。
スペインで最もテコンドーが盛んなのはどの世代ですか？
現在、ほとんどのテコンドー道場は子供と青少年がメインです。
そのほかに主に体調を維持したり、子供たちと武道を通して時間を共有したりするために、中高年がテコンドーのクラスに参加する傾向があります。
また、私のクラスには家族でテコンドーをする「テコンドーファミリー」が多くいます。
スペインについて
スペインの観光名所や食べ物を教えてください。
スペインは世界的に非常に人気の観光地であり、私の地域であるアンダルシアは、歴史的建造物、文化、美食、そして特にホスピタリティで非常に有名であり、とりわけグラナダ、セビリア、コルドバ、マラガを訪問せずにスペインに来たとは言えません。

Please tell us about your impressions of the World Championships in general.
I must first congratulate the Organizing Committee of ITF World Championships in Astana (Kazakhstan), it is very hard to organize such a great and important event. The Kazakh Athletic Stadium was impressive along with all the raised rings, the television coverage was exceptional and above all the hospitality of the Kazakh people.
It is always amazing how the competitors set the standards with each championship and of course it is not very often that we get to see the Korean Taekwon-Do Demonstration Team, absolutely the best in the world; seeing them in action always impresses me.
Please tell us what left the biggest impression on you at this world tournament.
In a World Championship, the athletes are the main protagonists, through their effort throughout the year, they “showcase” their level of technique and prowess. The standards are raised in every World Championship and this is a great sign for Taekwon-Do.
Please tell us your impressions of the Japanese team.
Japan has always been a very strong country with a very high level of competitors, it’s always a pleasure to watch the Japanese team compete.
Which generation of people in your country practices taekwondo the most?
Right now most Taekwon-Do dojangs are mostly comprised of children and adolescents, although currently, there is a tendency where middle aged people are joining Taekwon-Do classes, mainly to stay in shape and to share their children’s martial art. I have quite a few “Taekwon-Do families” in my classes.
How popular is Taekwondo as a martial art in your country?
Taekwon-Do is quite popular in Spain, specially the WT style. ITF is slowly permeating the martial arts scene in my country and I am very hopeful that it will be much more popular in the future.
How long have your country’s representative athletes been practicing for this world championship?
Unfortunately due to economic problems, we haven’t been able to bring any competitors this year.
Please tell us about your country’s tourist attractions and recommended foods.
Spain is a very popular touristic destination, Andalusia, which is my region is very famous for its historical monuments, culture, gastronomy and especially for their hospitality, one cannot come to Spain without visiting Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba or Malaga among others.
Please give a message to the Japanese national taekwondo team and Japanese taekwondo trainees.
Apart from their very high standards, I love the spirit of the Japanese team, I hope that they will never lose this and I am looking forward to seeing them in the next world championships.
